It is a beautiful evening here on Whidbey Island. 8:00pm, not yet dark, still 70 degrees outside. On an island in the middle of Puget Sound such evenings are not that common and to have a few in the middle of September is quite a treat. Millie and I sat on the front porch for awhile watching the moon peek through the trees and observing the little bats flying back and forth across the lawn.
In the gathering gloom the black-eyed susans and white coneflower appear to glow, reflecting back the last bit of light. 8:00pm….. so lovely, so peaceful. On this day, 9/11, I treasure this moment of peace.
I will never forget.
