Finally underway! (sort of…)

So much to catch you up on!  Our home did sell and quickly.  We received a great deal of interest and a very good offer within one week of listing!  Negotiations were fairly quick and easy, inspections were done, and the sale was finalized in less than a month.  Gratefully, the lovely new owners were agreeable to us renting back through August.  What a blessing!  This gave us more time to pack and move the majority of our belongings into storage in a more leisurely fashion.  Even so, it was a mighty intense month. When I could, I snuck out to my garden with tea mug in one hand and camera in the other to take photos and deep breaths.  Such an incredible summer here!

At the end of August we moved ourselves, kitty Abby, and corgi Millie, over to my parents’ house.  Those last few weeks were a bittersweet time.  Many memories were relived, and now we look ahead to a new phase in our lives and the many new memories to be made.

We are now settled (sort of) into a sweet little guest room where we will be until Island County allows us to occupy our travel trailer for the duration of our home build.

Speaking of the home build, we have had so many bumps in the road.    Easement negotiations, power vault issues, loan issues…..   We have endured the most ridiculous experience with the company from which we ordered Chris’s pole building kit.  They just didn’t seem to want our money!  Truly!  It took two weeks to convince them they had not one penny from us. The deposit had not been charged to our credit card, and the ACH payment for the steel components was never processed either.  Without proof of payment, our construction loan could not be finalized.  After a multitude of emails and phone calls, in total exasperation I finally exclaimed to their accounts receivable person “If you want to give us a free or half-price pole building, we’d be delighted to accept, BUT we will need that great offer in writing signed by a principle of your firm!”  Ahhhhh…… Something finally clicked.  All in all, this craziness has delayed the closing of our loan by more than 3 weeks.  Our loan officer, builder, and project manager have been so incredibly patient.

It does seem most pieces are finally falling into place.  All of our permits have been approved, preliminary clearing and dirt work has been done, the foundation is poured, temporary power should be in on Monday (fingers crossed), and framing should soon begin! Yahoo!    : )
