Dear friends and customers, belated New Year’s greetings to you. This is just a short note to inform you of the poignant time my family is living through and how my small business will be affected in the near term.
In early November, my father fell sending him into a rapid health decline and my family into full crisis mode. As of this week, he is officially in Hospice care. Between preexisting conditions, two tumbles, and all the associated injuries and trauma, his body is just too worn and weary. While not what we had hoped for, this is not unexpected, and we are accepting and handling it as well as can be expected. Now we surround my mother with support, and lavish my father with love and the best of comfort care for as long as we can and we treasure every moment with him.
So, yes, this is why I have been slow to reopen my shop this month, and while I am reopening today, it will only be for one week. I need to be fully present for my family in the days and weeks ahead, and I know you will understand.
Orders will be accepted up until Tuesday the 18th at 6pm PST. If you would like to do a front porch pick up, you may do so on Saturday (15th), Tuesday (18th) or Wednesday (19th). Any orders not picked up by the evening of next Wednesday will be mailed. After you place your order, contact me with your desired pickup day, and whether you wish to pick up in the morning or afternoon. I’ll respond to confirm and will provide you directions to my Clinton home, if you’ve not been here before. After your order is picked up, I will promptly refund all shipping charges. Please try to place your order at least 24 hours prior to your desired pick up time.
Some of you know what we’ve been going through and we are so grateful for the notes of care and concern we have received. Hold us in your heart and let us hope my father’s final journey is peace-filled and gentle.
Take good care,
Dori

Oh, Dori, I’m so sorry. I hope this time can be a peaceful and unifying time for your family. I hope you can get moments of peace and support, too, as you give and care and feel it all. I faced it with my own father last year right at this same time of year. My heart is with you.
Love, Emily Crofts

Hospice care on the island was wonderful for Dean and for those of us who loved him and took care of him until he drew his last breath. You are doing it right! My love to you and your family, and to Leslie who, I know, is doing it right, too. Your dad couldn’t have better care in these last, bittersweet weeks.

Dori, I am so sorry to hear of your father’s illness. It is indeed a sad time. I know you will wrap your heart around him and give your mother the loving support she needs. Just a few weeks ago my own mother passed away in hospice. Her heart had been failing for most of the past year. May your father’s passing be gentle, and may you and your family find peace and comfort. ?
with love,
Sandra Holliday
