A place to make, to dream, to breathe

Last winter, this little studio came to be. The idea for this sweet building was born on a gloomy January day amid the COVID crisis. We had made it through one year of lockdown and another was looming. Without warning I had an utter meltdown one morning. Loneliness, worry, frustration with a too small and inefficient workspace, and the dark days of winter all combined caused a crash into the dismals the likes of which I have never experienced. After I finished mopping my eyes, my husband asked what I needed, what could he do.

Without much hesitation I asked for a bigger workspace, one filled with light even on the darkest of days, closer to my beloved evergreen trees, and with a welcoming table for friends once we could indeed gather safely again. His reply, as it has often been, “You design it, and I will build it.” And so, he did, along with the help of a good friend.

Early this spring I moved jars of teas, potion and candle making supplies, pots of herbs and flats of seedlings into my new workspace. With the warm days of summer just around the corner, I look forward to opening the windows to the breezes. The space is all I wished for and more, and I am deeply grateful to have it. And now, when local customers come to pick up their teas and herbs, I will be delighted to welcome them here.

It’s a work in progress. I need more storage, perhaps big stacking baskets will do the trick, and the workbench (from my old tea shop!) in front of the beautiful windows definitely needs a curtain to hide those bins, but I’m going to take my time making it just right. As a child, a playhouse would have been grand, but I’m pretty sure this big girl playhouse will better stand the test of time.
